AI and Brain Research

A great deal of what Artificial Intelligence can do right now is accomplished in a vastly different way from the one used for that same task in the human brain. Deep-Learning, while it has brought great advances to AI, is still very different from the way a brain learns.

A discussion of this issue can be found in a 2017 article by Jeff Hawkins reporting on research conducted at Numenta. The article is entitled “The Secret of Strong AI.” While it challenges much of the hype about approaches to AI at the time, it also points forward to significant advances that are still relevant in 2021.

Thank you to Art Sherman for sharing the article with me!
